Each year nearly 5,000 people go blind from glaucoma. About three million Americans suffer from the disease, but only about half are aware of it. With no noticeable early warning signs, the best way to catch glaucoma is through regular eye exams. This is especially true if you are over 60, have a family history of glaucoma, or have diabetes. The type of treatment needed for glaucoma varies by its severity at the time of its diagnosis. Eye Examinations
The first time you visit Zeiter Eye, you will be given a comprehensive eye examination that will include a consultation with one of our ophthalmologists. During this initial meeting, your current eyewear prescriptions will be reviewed, and your vision history will be discussed.
For returning patients, yearly eye examinations are encouraged. During these routine exams, the health of your eyes will be evaluated for cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye diseases. Your vision will be checked to ensure that you are seeing the world as clearly as you can.
Transportation
Transportation to and from the Ambulatory Surgical Center is provided by Zeiter Eye free of charge for those patients who are undergoing surgery and do not have a family member that can escort them. Patients cannot drive themselves on the day of the surgery because a minimal amount of sedation is required for most outpatient surgeries.
Steve Schmierer, a professional driver for almost 20 years, has been an outstanding employee of Zeiter Eye for many years. He assists each patient with the highest degree of courtesy and professionalism. Our van is wheelchair accessible.
