Joseph T. Zeiter, M.D., F.A.C.S.

 


Dr. Joseph Zeiter is a board-certified ophthalmologist with more than 25 years of surgical experience. He received his undergraduate degree, medical degree, and ophthalmology training at the University of California, Davis. He began doing refractive surgery early in his career and has performed more than 10,000 refractive procedures, including radial keratotomy (RK), phororefractive keratectomy (PRK), LASIK, and CustomCornea®.

Dr. Joe’s interest in refractive surgery has spanned 25 years. He is the first eye surgeon in the area to perform not only PRK, but LASIK surgery as well. He is responsible for opening the first LASIK/PRK outpatient surgical center (Pacific Laser Eye Center / PLEC) in the San Joaquin Valley and is now, together with PLEC surgeons, offering myopic and hyperopic Custom LASIK with the revolutionary Wavelight Allegretto platform.

Dr. Joe started Mission Cataract in 1992 with Drs. Henry and John Zeiter. Mission Cataract is a yearly program that provides cataract surgery to people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford it.

His hobbies include traveling, Harley Davidsons, and offshore racing.

 

 

John H. Zeiter, M.D., F.A.C.S.

 

 

Dr. John Zeiter is a board-certified ophthalmologist with nearly 20 years of surgical experience. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Davis. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and completed his ophthalmology training at the Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. John has published over 20 articles in medical journals and books in the areas of cataract surgery and glaucoma. He is currently an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, Davis.

 

 

John C. Canzano, M.D.

 

 

Dr. John Canzano is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialized training and experience in refractive, cataract, and vitreoretinal surgery. Dr. Canzano completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University and earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He finished his residency training at UC Davis Medical Center, where he is currently an Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology. Dr. Canzano then pursued specialty training in the field of retina at USC-Doheny Eye Institute. Dr. Canzano is dedicated to the management of diabetic eye disease as well as macular degeneration, but also promotes a well-rounded and progressive approach to improving vision via his interest in refractive and cataract surgeries.

 

 

Richard M. Wong, M.D.

 

 

Dr. Richard Wong is a board-certified ophthalmologist with fellowship training in the field of glaucoma treatment. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, and his ophthalmology training at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He completed his glaucoma fellowship at the Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. As a glaucoma specialist, Dr. Wong is keenly aware of the latest advances in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, including aqueous shunts for extremely advanced cases of glaucoma. He advocates early detection and aggressive treatment to slow the progression of this terribly debilitating disease.

 

 

Kimberly Cockerham, M.D.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Cockerham received her Bachelor of Arts degree from University of California, San Diego. She received her Medical Degree from the George Washington University in Washington D.C. and entered into the US ARMY health scholarship program. She completed a General Surgery Internship at Letterman Army Medical Center and Ophthalmology residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She did two fellowships including Plastic Reconstruction, Orbital Disease and Surgical Neuro-ophthalmology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
 
Dr. Cockerham then served as chief of Oculofacial Plastics, Orbit and Surgical Neuro-ophthalmology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where she received numerous medals and extensive recognition for her 15 years of service in the U.S. Army.
 
Since leaving the military, Dr. Cockerham has been the Chief of service at Allegheny General Hospital and UCSF where she trained numerous medical students, residents and fellows. With over 100 peer reviewed publications and a book, Dr. Cockerham continues to lecture nationally and internationally. She currently has research funding from the department of defense to improve care for injured soldiers by creating eluting devices to prevent scarring, facial, visual and brain dysfunction and deformity.

 

Harold Hand, M.D.

 

 

Dr. Harold Hand, M.D. is a board-certified opthalmologist with more than 40 years of surgical experience. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Creighton University. He completed his internship at Southern Pacific Hospital and his Opthalmology residency at the University of Nebraska Hospitals.

He has been the Chief of Opthalmology for the United States Air Force at the David Grant Medical Center and has been in private practice in Stockton since 1969. He also taught at the University of California, Davis as an Associate Professor from 1973 to 1990.

 

 

 

Henry J. Zeiter, M.D., F.A.C.S.

 

Dr. Henry Zeiter is the founder of Zeiter Eye and one of the pioneers in the development and use of the intraocular lens in cataract surgery. After completing over 45 years as a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Henry recently retired from the practice of medicine to dedicate himself to writing, cultural pursuits and charitable giving.
